This year, on 28 and 29 May, Jura Tastival 2014 will take place. In their own words, this is a 'whisky tasting revolution'. Especially for the festival a whisky was bottled under the name Tastival. Along with a few other bloggers, I received a nice box from Whyte & Mackay, containing 5 samples, including this Tastival. So let us get to work!...

Isle of Jura 10 Year Old

You can't really compare this single malt to some of the delights produced by some of the Islay distilleries but it stands up as a pleasant whisky. Light sea salt and citrus with a smooth, faintly smokey, slightly peaty taste and short but satisfying finish.

Ian Macleod Distiller’s Chieftain’s Choice range has been around for many years and is somewhat hit and miss. Isle of Jura 11 Year Old Provenance bottling

The nose is light and refreshing - it has a citrus edge that keeps it zesty despite the main body of oil, salt and mild earthy peat. Really interesting smell. The taste is heavier than the nose. It still contains the citrus notes, but the earthy notes are stronger with more hints of salt, wood and smoke. The peatiness isn't as strong in the taste...
