Situated on the island of Islay (pronounced eye-la) off the South West coast of Scotland - Ardbeg is one of Scotland’s best loved distilleries famed for it’s peaty, yet fruity, single malt whiskies. The distillery dates back to 1794 - although not officially licensed for distilling until 1815 - but had ceased production by 1981. The “mothballed” distillery was reopened in 1989. However it closed again in 1996 until being purchased by Glenmorangie in 1997.
Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Islay is well know for its smoky character and Ardbeg whisky won’t disappoint fans of the more medicinal Islay style. From the fruity Bourbon barrel matured Ardbeg 10 year old to the sherry cask influenced single malt of Ardbeg Uigeadail the distillery offers a diverse range of whiskies. Some of the older 1970s bottles of Ardbeg whisky are now legendary but are still available from time to time.
