The new legal classifications of Scotch whisky categories can be a little confusing for the uninitiated. Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, Blended Scotch Whisky and Blended Grain Scotch Whisky all sound pretty similar.
In short Blended Grain Scotch Whisky, is grain whisky - that is to say whisky made from grain other than malted barley - that has been distilled at a number of different Scottish distilleries. It has then been matured for no less than three years in casks stored in Scotland and bottled at a minimum strength of 40% ABV.
